Ron was a great guy who worked tirelessly with his wife Ronnie, for the chapter before moving out to Ronkonkoma… The "two Ronnies" were instrumental in putting together the Chapter's 5th Anniversary Awards Dinner which took place on September 19, 1986... The awards dinner, which honored Martha Raye, the Shirelles and Thomas Patrick Noonan Jr., was held at the Knights of Columbus, George W Hudson Post 3701, at 49 –18 Queens Blvd., Woodside, NY...
In November of that year Ron tracked down Martha Ray at the "Ballroom" in New York City, where she was appearing, in order to present her with a Special Chapter 32 plaque and letter of appreciation for all of her work serving Vietnam Veterans during and after the war... Colonel Maggie as she was known, Invited Ron, Spence Polinger, and myself on stage to make the presentation... after her show, this multifaceted entertainer changed out of her Martha Raye sequined dress into her Colonel Maggie Special Forces shirt and POW bracelet, which she had worn since 1971 and invited us to join her at the bar and insisted on buying us several rounds of drinks... All of that was due to Ron's initiative in service our Chapter... Rest Easy Ron... and thanks for everything...
