Board of Directors Meeting


BOD meeting began: Oct. 27, 2021; 1P.M.

 

 

1.                  The attendance was taken. See Chart Above and Roll Call:   Gary Buschini, Bob Boisselle, Wayne Weisberg, Vincent Mogavero, Rubens Galchin, Fred Gundel, Joseph Thomas, Bruce Wittman, Thomas McElhenney, .

Continuation into General Meeting with like agenda items.

  1. Pledge of Allegiance. Statement of Motto. Concerns with health issues Russ recovering at home, Tom Van Etten suffered a fall, Southern District Leader Joe Engino is hospitalized with Sepsis, other ailments, and is not doing well.
  2. Doug opened general  meeting with open discussion of items:  (repeated from BOD)
    1. Golf Tee Off (6 attended) and Jay and Doug attended meal. ‘Steak melt in your mouth’ & made to order per Doug. Open Bar for over 2 hours. 8 Golfers @ $600, & 50/50 of $1,400 for the winners’ take. Paul is awaiting word on the Chapters’ Grant. Thank you Tommy Baker! Several of Tommys’ relatives were present. Appreciation was expressed by Doug at each table. Suggestion to support Filmores Tavern, Fresh Meadows was emphasized and a suggestion to mention the Chapter. Tommys’ flag was passed to the tavern for mounting!
    2. Fred discussed Saturday Nov. 6th at 11AM, Stanley Doviak (WWII Hero- Navy Cross; saved 9 men in a submarine) event at a small park near Valley National Bank as well as PLAV for re-naming and needs a Bugler and participation from the Chapter. Sponsor is Maspeth Federal Bank.
    3. Nov. 7th, Veterans day dinner at PLAV Sun. 2PM with DJ, beer and soda. Chapter 32 will pay for members $25 fee for days events.      

Raffle is still open at $50 with several cash prizes and proceeds to PLAV Scholarship funding. Highlight of the day will be a Veterans Day ceremony in front of PLAV. Chapter participation is recommended. Advise PLAV of attendance in advance to adjudge quantity of food to prepare.

  1. VVA National Convention (in coming, full week) Chapter 32 Delegates will be Dominick Yezzo, Gary Buschini and Al Ranni. 
  2. Doug thanked participants of street fair: Bobby, Al, Jay and Wayne who generated nearly $1000 largely from $20 Donations. Doug stated Bravo Zulu to the participants!
  3. Chapter 32 donated $1000 to Louisiana State Council, for recovery from damages due to Hurricane Ida. Response letter was received from the Council ‘Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another’ signed by the President of the Lousiana State Council and the Hurricane and Disaster Coordinator.
  4. Nov. 11th at  Veterans Day Affair in Whitestone (near the old chapter location) Park. Private transport to 15th Ave and 149th St. 
  5. Event at Elmhurst Park Memorial Nov. 10th at 11AM  sponsored Queens DA Melinda Katz and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards. Honorees to include Doug Williams. 
  6. Chapter & Post attended an event at Papavero Funeral Home for an indigent veterans’ funeral leaving a young family destitute.  Internment was at Calverton with Military Honors.
  7. Jay commented as to meeting a veteran at the ‘Moving Wall’ who is active with the American Legion Nassau County who has offered to try to locate  Legion Post to display the Indigent Flags (which can not be flown). Concerns about the condition of cases etc. 
  8. Chapter 40th Anniversary together with Holiday Party Dec. 11th5-9 P.M. Survey exists on website for headcount. DJ Ray will conduct. (Concerns about availability of Santa as originally agreed.) Chapter 32 offering $20 Uber credit for the celebration evening.
  9. Fred expressed gratitude for Chapters’ Donation of Christmas Decorations for PLAV following flooding.
  10. Cleanup planned for Wed. Oct. 27th 10AM.
  11. Nov. meeting date planned for November 17th at usual time and place.
  12. Open discussion of parking and Fred stated the possibility of Martin Luther H.S. property (grassy area) and St Stans’ by 60thStreet entrance for the Christmas Party.
  13. Veterans shirts as received from Medals of America in error. Sale successful.
  14. Review Minutes and Accepted & Seconded. Minutes Posted.

Nov.7 Sunday 2 PM Post 4 PLAV having brief Vets Day ceremony. Raffle-food.

Nov.10 Wednesday 11AM DA Melinda Katz Vets Day Ceremony. Elmhurst Vietnam Memorial Park. President Doug Williams Honoree.

Nov.11 Thursday 11AM. Vets Day ceremony Whitestone Memorial Park 149 St.& 15 Ave.

Nov.17 Wednesday 1PM Chapter meeting.
